Early morning drive to Sycamore Flats today to pick our Cinsault and Grenache for our 2018 Rosé. Brought samples of these Rhone varietals back to share in the tasting room. Friends enjoyed tasting the grapes and then tasting the Rosé wine in the glass… Remember that the Grenache picked today for the Rosé is young, we’ll come back in about a month to pick the more mature Grenache for our flagship wine, Big Sur Red, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah (GSP for your enophiles).
We learn so much when we go out to the vineyards with our winemaker Ryan Kobza. Over the last few weeks we got to know our grapes even better, from determining the type of grape by the shape of the leaf or the cluster shape and berry size, to seeing first hand the difference made by sun exposure on one side of the row to the other.
